Who We Are!
Hi and Welcome to Delish-i-Full! I’m Jessica and my husband Dustin and I have started this food blog to share our love for food, cooking, health and happiness. This blog is giving us the opportunity to use my creative thinking and design mind combined with my husband’s software engineering background to create and develop a site that we are passionate about and can grow together with.
The inspiration behind my recipes is from years of learning about food sensitivities and allergies that I have and what I can do to live a longer, happier, and healthy lifestyle. I use organic whenever possible and in the summertime we grow all of our own herbs and veggies. I do believe in indulging though from time to time, especially when it comes to DARK CHOCOLATE.
My kitchen creations will consist of gluten-free vegan recipes that can be altered to add meats and dairy. I eat a vegan lifestyle (besides honey and sometimes eggs in baking), whereas my husband does not. I don’t expect everyone else to always eat the same way I do, so my recipes will have lots of add-ons and alterations to meet everyone’s tastes for their table.
A little Background
I am an architect by day, and food blogger by nights and weekends. I create the recipes, take and edit the photographs and write the blogs you are reading here. I love being in the kitchen surrounded by amazing farm grown foods and SPICES!!
I grew up in Florida and D (my hubby) grew up in Ohio. We met in Nashville and both call this home now. We have two puppies, Muppy and Abby Cadabby…Yep both named after Muppets! You’ll see them make an appearance or two on here from time to time; along with some special homemade puppy treats we like to whip up for them. They aren’t spoiled at all!!
I like to think I had an interesting life so far. I grew up on the beach and flipping through the air. I was a gymnast and traveled the country competing in competitions and collecting medals and trophies that no adult knows what to do with anymore. I still do handstands everywhere I go. It’s kind of my goal in life to get a picture in front of every historical monument, beautiful ocean, mountaintop… pretty much everywhere I travel. So be on the lookout for this crazy chick doing handstands in a city near you.
In high school I developed a love for the theatre and began acting and dancing which led to a job in entertainment at Walt Disney World and then overseas at Tokyo Disneyland. This experience opened my eyes to a world of food and architecture you’ve only seen in the movies, thus starting my journey to cooking and ultimately my road to getting my Masters in Architecture. So you’ll definitely find a lot of Asian inspired foods in my repertoire.
On the other hand, Dustin’s childhood was a lot different than mine growing up outside of Toledo and playing in the snow instead of the sand. He played many sports as a kid and being 6’-4” tall, he’s always asked if he played basketball, but the answer is no! He always questions why he didn’t, but he was a skateboarder and roller bladder, now turned computer nerd. He’s the brains behind this whole site. Being a software engineer/computer programmer and being able to do all the techie stuff is the most amazing thing ever!! YAY for TEAM WORK 🙂
D and I met 5 years ago through mutual friends on St. Patrick’s Day (the luck of the Irish was on my side that day). It is a day we both will never forget and celebrate every year. We got married a little over 3 years ago in my father’s hospital room, 2 days before he passed from cancer. This experience has forever changed me and influences my zest for a healthy lifestyle.
You will find that We LOOOOOOOOOOOVE spices and you will see this reflection in my recipes! Don’t let that scare you, cooking is all about taste, so if there’s something you don’t like or don’t want to use as much of, you can definitely eliminate anything you see fit. Good food should bring out your personality and reflect who you are and be inspired by the places you’ve traveled and restaurants you’ve eaten in. I want this site to be a place anyone can come and find a recipe fit for the pickiest of eater as well as the foodie with a refined pallet. All my recipes state allergen information at the top, so you’ll know what it contains before looking at the recipe and ingredients.
Don’t hesitate to ask a question or comment. We would love to hear from you! Thanks for visiting and Happy Cooking!!
